Det är sällan jag får fota svalorna här hemma, de flyger oftast omkring och jagar små insekter i luften. Svalan är ca 20 cm inklusive stjärten. Stjärten är djupt kluven och svalan har en mörk strupe. Den förekommer ofta i anslutning till kulturmarker såsom bondgårdar, bryggor, broar men mer sällan i stadsbebyggelse. Den kan ofta ses och höras kvittrande från båtlinor, bryggor och telefontrådar. Boet byggs av lera och fodras med fjädrar. Svalan lägger ca 5 ägg som är vita med rödbruna fläckar. Den kan föda upp två årliga kullar.

It can often be seen and heard chirping from boat rope, bridges and telephone wires. The nest is built of mud and lined with feathers. Swallow lay about 5 eggs that are white with reddish-brown stains. It can breed two litters yearly.
